Messenger and a notebook, or an app? An honest comparison

This is a plain comparison. The old way works until a station grows past what one person can remember.

Where Messenger and a notebook are fine

  • Mostly walk-in customers and very few deliveries.
  • One person handles every order and all the money.
  • Few customers on credit, and no containers lent out.
  • You do not need to know your profit by day or by product.

Where they start to cost you

  • Orders buried in chats: a late reply sends the customer to the next station.
  • Deliveries held in someone's head: who delivered, who paid and who still has your gallons.
  • Handwritten utang: pages get lost and so does the money you were owed.
  • No list of regular customers to bring back, and no way to see what sells.
  • More than one person handling cash: nothing shows who recorded what.

What an app changes

With one system, an order from the online store, a walk-in sale and a delivery all end up in the same list, with their payment status. The customer list remembers addresses and gallons. Reports add up sales and expenses for you.

What it does not change

An app does not replace the basics: clean water, a permit, a reliable rider and a friendly counter. It also needs a few minutes a day to keep records up to date. If you will not enter sales, a notebook you do fill in beats an app you do not.

Frequently asked questions

When should I move from a notebook to an app?

When you have regular customers, deliveries, utang or more than one person handling money. Those are the points where records get lost.

Do I have to stop using Messenger?

No. Many customers will still message you. You can send them your store link or QR so the order is recorded properly.

Can I move my customers over?

You can add customers in the app as you serve them, so your list builds up naturally. Online customers are saved when they order.
